Heart rate contains real information. It gives you another view of how your body responds to running, and over time it can help you recognize differences between genuinely easy running and effort that is gradually becoming harder.

Those decisions become more useful once you understand your own patterns. This is also why I would not tell a beginner to buy a more sophisticated watch simply to start running correctly. Technology should add information rather than create a prerequisite for running.
